.ÊÊÊÊ From Caspar Chorus Ê To whom it may concern, Ê Recently, the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) has provided funding for three PhD-projects, to be completed at Delft University of Technology's Section of Transport Policy and LogisticsÕ Organization. Each of the three projects has a duration of four years; intended starting date is appr. 1 January 2009. Ê Project 1 (Use of supernetworks) aims to answer the following research questions: To what extent are individuals aware of and benefit from the existing linkages between available networks of physical and virtual mobility (car, transit, ICT)? And: to what extent are they aware of and benefit from synergies they may derive from coupling their activities with other individuals at certain times and places? Ê Project 2 (Traveler response to unconventional trends) acknowledges that structural changes in travel choice situations (such as the introduction of tradable travel permits) are becomingÊ increasingly likely as a result of climate change policies and the depletion of fossil fuels. The project aims at developing and testing choice-models that explain and predict how travelers will respond to such changes. Ê Project 3 (Accessibility-effects of information service technology) explores possible revisions of accessibility-measures in light of recent advances in technology in combination with recent insights into traveler behavior. Focus will be on the role of ICT as a possible substitute for physical mobility, and the role of travel information as a possible means of improving accessibility.
